October 23 – November 20, 2017

Please join the non-profit Karma & Jyamu Bhotia Foundation and Karma Bhotia as he returns to Nepal in 2017 with a group of volunteers to work on service projects designed to bring better education, health and improved living conditions to the villagers of Karma’s home village of Chyamtang, and the surrounding Bhot-khola region, located in remote northeastern Nepal near the Tibetan border.  The area is home to Mt. Makalu, the world’s 5th tallest mountain.

While in Nepal, participants will be involved in the continuation of various service projects developed during previous service treks to the region.  There will also be numerous opportunities for participants to interact with villagers who have lived high in the Himalayas in remote villages for generations.

The trek to Chyamtang will be supported by porters, sherpas and a chef, while trekkers camp and sleep in tents (2 per tent) along the way.  Approximately 50 miles of hiking is required to reach Chyamtang.  The trail will gain and lose elevation and there will be days with up to 2200’ of elevation change.  Be prepared to hike 5-8 hours on some days.  The physically demanding nature of this trek requires that participants be healthy, strong and prepared for such conditions before arriving in Nepal.

After our volunteer service work we will return to Kathmandu with its many historic, cultural and spiritual sites, including the Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath and Boudhanath temples with their famous and awe-inspiring stupas.

Spring 2018 Trek Information
Please Join Us For Trekking And Volunteer Service Work In Nepal
March 15 – April 2, 2018

From Kathmandu we will travel to the Pokhara region, an area of Nepal widely renowned for its beauty and superb trekking.  We will embark on 5 days and 4 nights of comfortable trekking in the Pokhara area.   There will be plenty of time for rest, personal exploration and photography, as this will be the height of the seasonal blooming of the national flower of Nepal, the Rhododendron, which will be viewed with the snow-capped Himalayans in the background.

We will then journey to Chitawan National Park, rich with diverse vegetation extending from sub-tropical jungle to savanna grasslands.  Chitawan is home to many rare and notable animals including the spotted eagle, one-horned rhinoceros and Bengal tiger.  After our jungle safari in Chitawan and experiencing an indigenous Tharu cultural dance, we will travel to the bazaar in Charikot in the Dolakha district.

We will then trek to Khahare, also in the Dolakha district, for 4 days of medical and earthquake relief work with the non-profit Bhotia Foundation.  The village of Khahare was almost completely destroyed by the April 25, 2015 earthquake and has a great many needs.  Khahare lies in a remote, narrow valley of the Himalayas and may only be reached by 3 - 4 hours of walking over established footpaths.

After our volunteer service work in Khahare we will return to Kathmandu with its many historic, cultural and spiritual sites, including the Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath and Boudhanath temples with their famous and awe-inspiring stupas.
